Satellites

Satellites are masses that orbit the earth. The satellites we put up there though do much more than that. Sputnik-1 was the first satellite so it would be the one that paved the way to where satellites are now. In the beginning satellites would be used only for scientific use such as measuring different variables in outer space but today, they have as much use to the public as they do for scientists. Today satellites are used by the public constantly. One such thing is GPS which is used equally as much in the military as it is with the public. For the military it could be used as a missile guidance system to help compute where it is and what it needs to do to get on track. For the public it is primarily used to compute the best route to get from one point to another while driving but, it could also be used for many other projects that tinkers like to make. Another thing satellites can do is video such as satellite TV which is used by consumers. The military though could stream video almost instantaneously back to headquarters to help aid them in making the right decisions. Most importantly is data such as satellite internet. While expensive for the public consumers it allows anyone, anywhere that has a clear view of the sky to use the Internet which was spawned off from ARPANET which was the child of ARPA another creation due to Sputnik's crisis.
